Interestingly, the ownership of an automobile is an abstract and would be a dream-come-true for many Russian families. Paradoxically, the streets of Togliatti, Samara, and Ulyanovsk are loaded with many models, shapes, and sizes of Russian made autos. With the average employment salary of approximately $60.00 US dollars per month, it would take approximately four years at full salary to purchase the car pictured above. Our brand new car in Russia was recently purchased right off the assembly line (Avtovaz operates the largest auto manufacturing plant in Russia, and is located in Togliatti). The full purchase price for this model known as the "Zhiguli", a 4-door, 4-speed manual transmission little tank: $3,000.00 USD.
